Through the financial grant I have received from EFE-Palestine,” Hanadi states, “I was able to utilize the right tools and equipment thus expediting the fruit preparation phase and have them ready for drying. Moreover, the training program with EFE-Palestine has enhanced my entrepreneurial character, as I am able to better interact with the market, customers, farmers and merchants. Furthermore, learning about relevant entrepreneurial skills have enabled me to run a successful business with more confidence. Additionally, I am today more knowledgeable in business plan development, risk identification and mitigation. Today, I can confidently explore potential opportunities, and create a network with similar operating businesses to expand my business. By doing this, I believe I am getting closer to achieving my dream, which is to own a large industrial enterprise equipped with state of the art technological tools tailored specifically for solar-air dryers
Hanadi Sufyan, Renewable Energy Engineer from Beit Hanun, Gaza, and an EFE-Palestine Entrepreneurship Training Program alumna. “I have always aspired to start my own business that would serve the agricultural community here and is within my field of specialisation. This is where the inspiration of Solar Food came from.” says Hanadi. Solar Food is an environmental business project that specializes in naturally drying fruit using an energy-saving hybrid air-solar dryer, built by Hanadi herself. Solar Food aims to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the drying process without being affected by the recurring power outage in Gaza. It further utilizes surplus crops that are subject to waste due to improper storage or the inability to export them outside Gaza. By drying the crops at her home garden, Hanadi has contributed in generating profits for herself and the farmers in her community.
